There is an article today on preparations for the DNC in Charlotte and highlighting the efforts of Stephen Kerrigan, Executive Director of the National Democratic Convention.  He is a Massachusetts native who left his original ambition to be a monk and decided instead to enter politics.  Quite a switch.  The story from the Globe is here:  

Given the recent mood of the electorate in North Carolina his task got a bit harder but he seems up to it.  His crowning achievement will be financing the Convention from small donors instead of large corporations.  In contrast to this the settings for convention activities will be held at the Time Warner Cable Arena and the Bank of America stadium.  It’s kinda hard to win them all.
